223 Osechi (Special meal for New Year)

Osechi is a special meal we only eat on the New Year's Day in Japan.

Originally they were prepared before the New Year's Day so that people could take a break from cooking on the actual New Year's Day. Therefore most of the dishes are cooked with sugar, vinegar and spices for preservation. Each dish also has meanings mainly wishing for good lucks for the New Year.

This time, I made osechi-like-dish, not the true traditional one, with the ingredients I had in the kitchen at that moment.

Ebi, prawn symbolising a fortune for a long life until our backs bend.
Kinshi tamago, egg symbolising a fortune for wealth.
Namasu, pickled vegetables, symbolising happiness and celebration.
Kuromame, beans symbolising a fortune for health and work.
Zoni, dimpling soup

ありあわせの材料でお節料理(もどき)を作りました〜

海老、茶巾、なます、黒豆(実はヒヨコ豆)、雑煮、十二分お正月(気分?)を味わうことができました〜☆
