A breath taking color lake at the foot of Aoraki/Mt. Cook, the Lake Pukaki.
I remember that in Maori, "ao" means Earth, the world, cloud, to be bright..., while in Japanese, "ao" means the color of blue.
アオラキ／クック山の麓にあるため息が出ちゃうくらいの蒼色の湖、プカキ湖。
そういえば、マオリ語で「あお」は「地球、世界、雲…」とかっていう意味だったけど、日本語では色の「青、蒼、藍…」という意味なんだよな～。

The highest mountain in New Zealand (3,724m).
The Maori name for the mountain, Aoraki means Ao (world, daytime, cloud) and raki (day, sky, weather). Wheres, the English name was given honour Captain James Cook.
It is interesting how some traditions tend to give mountains names meaning related to the natures while some give names honouring people.
Mt. Everest was named honouring Gearge Everest, while it is also called Chomolungma in Tibetan, meaning Holy Mother, and has many other names.

アオラキはマオリ族の名称でアオは世界、日、雲を、ラキは日、空、天気を意味するそうです。英語名のクック山は海軍士官ジェームス・クックから付けられたとのこと。
夫々の文化によって山に付ける名称が違うのは興味深い。自然由来の名称、人を称えての名称…。
エベレスト山もジョージ・エベレストから名称されたらしいが、チベット語ではチョモルンマ、大地の母神という意味を持っているらしい。

After getting damaged from the earthquake, the trams in Christchurch has started running again! I love the city where trams running through. It definitely has a different taste than trains or subways.
震災の影響を受けた路面電車がクライストチャーチ市内を再び走り始めました！個人的には、路面電車が走る街って大好き。電車や地下鉄とは何処か違った味を持っている気がする。
